The Network Systems Research Institute of the Japan Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has successfully developed and tested fiber optic cable capable of transmitting signals at a rate of 1 Petabit per second. That is the equivalent of transmitting an 8K video to 10 million people at once.

The group of scientists conducted the new test using a fiber optic switch system developed based on MEMS technology (micro-mechatronic system including sensors and actuators of very small size). micrometer and millimeter), three new generation conductors, capable of navigating signals from 10 Terabit per second up to 1 Petabit per second.

This speed is 100 times the capacity of the current Internet.

This is a big step, we have the basis to build an optical cable frame for future connection projects, including streaming video, playing games in the cloud, developing 5G networks. or the Internet of Things.

NICT conducted a total of 4 tests to prove they had laid the foundation bricks for the future fiber optic network:

    - Successful optical fiber switching with data rate of 1 Petabit per second.

    - Redundancy to be ready to deal with the case of network loss or cable cut.

    - Pass 1 Petabit signal / second through many types of optical cable, with different characteristics.

    - Maintain a network signal speed of 10 Terabit per second in Network 1 Petabit per second.

With this success, the team from NICT had the opportunity to give a presentation before the 45th European European Telecommunications Telecommunications Conference, the world's largest conference in the field with a relatively young age. With this initial success, we have reason to look forward to a bright future with superior network speed.
